DETROIT (WWJ) - A tentative contract has been reached between MGM Grand casino and the Detroit Casino Council.
A federal mediator has been involved in bargaining between the DCC and MGM Grand over the past two days, officials said.
MGM workers rejected an earlier contract that MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown both ratified. The two casinos have a 5-year contract that includes wage increases, wider availability of training on new technologies and a decrease in workloads for housekeepers and other employees.
The casino strike began on Oct. 17 after contract talks broke down. The DCC said the strike was due to an increase in workloads and overtime, proposed changes in healthcare and wages. It is the first strike in the history of Detroit casinos since they opened in the 1990s and 2000s.
The strike will continue until workers approve the contract. The ratification vote will be held on Dec. 2.
There is no word yet on the specifics of the proposed contract.
