Michigan couple wrecks hotel in escape attempt after crime spree: police

(WWJ) A Shelby Township woman and a Saginaw man accused of going on a crime spree in mid-Michigan are in custody after a dramatic attempt to escape.

Isabella County Sheriff's deputies arrested the 28-year old woman and 22-year-old man after a search that went throughout a Days Inn hotel in Union Twp., Wednesday morning.

The suspects, who were wanted for stealing cars, broke through the hotel walls into other rooms and eventually went into the attic, with deputies in pursuit.

The woman was was eventually able to get down and was placed under arrest for felony destruction of property and possession of methamphetamine, the sheriff's office said.

The man continued to move through the ceiling area for a couple of hours. Eventually, he crashed through the ceiling and was holding onto ceiling framework before falling into the hotel pool. He was then arrested on warrants for several recent stolen vehicle and fleeing and eluding cases.

The suspects' names have not yet been released, with charges pending in Isabella and Clare counties. Authorities believe the pair could be linked to additional crimes as the investigation continues.

Police said the hotel is estimated to have several thousand dollars worth of damage.
