“We want to ensure all Michiganders protect their wallets and their children this season, that’s why our Consumer Protection team put together this dangerous toys guide to promote safety tips and share recent recalls before you purchase those remaining gifts,” Nessel said.

Here are the recalled toys that have been included in the 2021 Dangerous Toys Guide so far this year:

--NEWBORN LOUNGERS Sept. 23, 2021 The Boppy Company recalls three lounger pillows as infants can suffocate if they roll, move, or are placed on the lounger in a position that obstructs breathing, or roll off the lounger onto an external surface, such as an adult pillow or soft bedding that obstructs breathing.

--CHILDREN’S SHAVING KIT Sept. 9, 2021: Juratoys recalls the Janod Children’s Shaving Kit due to the brown trim of the shaving kit bag containing levels of a regulated phthalate that exceed the prohibition of specific phthalates. Banned phthalates are toxic if ingested by young children and cause adverse health issues.

--CUTIE SPOOVEL Aug. 26, 2021 Ryan and Rose recalls children’s eating utensil due to a choking hazard. The handle of the Cutie Spoovel utensil can break off releasing small parts, posing a choking hazard for young children

--TEETHER RINGS WITH PLUSH ATTACHMENTS Aug. 18, 2021 Hallmark recalls Teether Rings with Decorative Fabric and Plush Attachments because the finished wooden ring can break into small parts, posing a choking hazard.

--SLAP WATCHES BY K&M INTERNATIONAL Aug. 18, 2021 Wild Republic recalls a variety of slap watches with coin cell batteries that are attached to the silicone bracelet as the coin battery inside the slap watches can fall out, posing battery ingestion and choking hazard to young children.

--UPPABABY RUMBLESEAT June 30, 2021 UPPAbaby recalls the RumbleSeat accessory adapters designed to be used with the RumbleSeat. The adaptors can detach, posing a fall hazard to the child in the set.

--BACKYARD DISCOVERY BIG BRUTUS, LITTLE BRUTUS AND MINI BRUTUS METAL A-FRAME SWING SETS May 13, 2021 Leisure Time Products recalls the swing sets because the attachment that connects the swing hanger to the top tube can fail, posing an injury hazard.

--KOLCRAFT CUDDLE ‘N CARE 2-IN-1 BASSINET May 5, 2021 Kolcraft recalls the Cuddle ‘n Care and the Preferred Position 2-in-1 Bassinet & Incline Sleepers because infant fatalities have been reported with other manufacturers’ inclined sleep products, after the infants rolled from their back to the stomach or side, or under other circumstances.

--CLIP CLOP INFANT ACTIVITY RATTLES April 14, 2021 Playgro recalls the Infant Activity Rattles due to choking hazard. The abacus ring on the horse’s back can dislodge and release the small beads, posing a choking hazard to small children.

--LUXE SHERPA ANIMAL BATH WRAPS April 7, 2021 RH recall involves three styles of hooded bath wraps: Animal, Heathered Plush, and Luxe Sharpa. The recalled bath wraps fail to meet flammability standards for children’s sleepwear, posing a risk of burn injuries to children.

Additional Tips:

-Choose age-appropriate toys and follow age limits on toy guides.

-Choose toys that match your child’s interests and abilities.

-Check the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website to learn if a toy was recalled, especially when buying second hand or online.

-Educate your older children about toy safety and recruit them to help supervise younger children.

-If the child is under three, assume the toy or product will go in their mouth.

-Always gift with appropriate safety gear that is sized to fit.

-Pay close attention to privacy settings on tablets or any toy that can record a child’s voice.

-Remember: magnets go in a lot easier than they come out. Avoid toys with high-powered magnets.
