Michigan Appeals Court rules on Governor Whitmer recall petitions

LANSING (WWJ) -- Six petitions to recall Governor Gretchen Whitmer are being given the green light to circulate.

The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled on Thursday that the Board of Canvassers was correct in granting their approval.

A group called the “Recall Whitmer Movement” is behind a number of the petitions, one of which stemmed from issues regarding the handling of nursing homes this past winter during the pandemic.

In response, the Whitmer campaign has said that it plans to appeal the decision.

“This is part of a massive and coordinated attack by Republicans trying to make the Governor fail and our campaign will strenuously oppose these efforts so the Governor can keep saving lives, reopening our economy and creating jobs,” Whitmer campaign spokesperson Mark Fisk said in a statement.
