DEARBORN (WWJ) -- Paying more than $4 a gallon for gas could soon be just a memory, as prices continue to decline in Michigan.

According to a new report by AAA, the price of fuel has dropped 3 cents compared to last week in Michigan, and drivers are now paying an average of $3.92 per gallon for regular unleaded.

This price is 28 cents less than this time last month -- but still $1.13 more than this time last year.

Triple-A said that motorists are now paying an average of $58 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline, which is an increase of about $7 from when prices were at their highest in November 2021.

“While Michigan motorists saw a slight drop in the price at the pump last week, crude oil prices increased,” said Adrienne Woodland, the spokesperson for the Auto Club Group. "If crude oil prices continue to increase, pump prices could possibly follow suit."

As for drivers in Metro Detroit, the average daily gas price has declined slightly compared to last week, at $3.97 per gallon, which is 2 cents less than last week’s average -- but still $1.16 more than this same time last year.
