(WWJ) — A man who used to live in Dearborn Heights has been extradited from Guam to face sexual assault charges in Michigan.
Last week 30-year-old Jordan Wagner was extradited to Wayne County, where he was arraigned on Aug. 27 on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of third-degree CSC.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the charges Wednesday as part of the recently-launched Operation Survivor Justice, a program that helps extradite alleged fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.
Wagner is accused of sexually assaulting a pre-teen relative during a brief visit to her home in 2020, according to Nessel’s office.
The victim reported the attack eight years later and Wagner was charged in December of 2020. The AG’s office says, at that time it was known that Wagner was living in Guam, but extradition “proved cost-prohibitive for local agencies.”
Earlier this year funding through Operation Survivor Justice was allocated for Wagner’s extradition. His next court appearance has been scheduled for Dec. 4.
“This extradition from Guam on four-year-old assault charges shows how Operation Survivor Justice is extending the long arm of the law and reprioritizing victims of sex assaults perpetrated years ago,” Nessel said, per a press release. “By returning these fugitive defendants back to Michigan to stand trial, we are giving victims an opportunity for healing and closure, expanding our ability to hold offenders accountable, and making safer communities across the country.”
Operation Survivor Justice is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.
More information on the operation can be found on the AG’s website.
