(WWJ) – A Northern Michigan man is facing a long list of charges after Michigan State Police stopped him with drug paraphernalia and metal knuckles during a traffic stop.
Robert Fleming of Leroy, Mich., was stopped by state troopers in Haring Township – just north of Cadillac – around 7:30 p.m. Monday for driving on a suspended driver's license.
During the stop the trooper noticed two torches in the cup holder area. Fleming told the trooper he used them for camping, but the trooper also spotted a spoon with white residue on it in the center console.
When asked to hand the spoon to the trooper, Fleming allegedly wiped the residue from the spoon, put it in his mouth and began licking it, according to MSP officials. He then dunked the spoon repeatedly in a drink, so the trooper asked Fleming to exit the vehicle.
He got out while holding the spoon in his right hand saying, "I don't see what the problem is," officials said. Fleming was then placed under arrest.
The trooper found an identical spoon with residue and a used syringe inside the vehicle. Both items tested positive for methamphetamine, according to MSP.
A pair of metal knuckles were also found during the stop, according to police.
Fleming was arraigned Tuesday in 84th District Court in Wexford County on one count each of possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, possession of a dangerous weapon and operating while license suspended.
He also received a habitual offender fourth offense notice. Officials didn't release any details about his previous crimes.
His bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety. His next scheduled court appearance is on July 3.
