WARREN (WWJ) – Warren police are investigating the first worker death in the state for 2023 after a Shelby Township man was killed after slipping and falling from a truck at a steel company on Thursday.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports the 61-year-old man was going to the Super Steel Treating Co. near 10 Mile and Mound Roads on Thursday when he fell.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer told WWJ that the incident was a "terrible accident," but did not provide any further details.
According to Langton, it appears the man may have been crushed after being trapped between a truck and a trailer.
The victim was not an employee at Super Steel, Langton reported.
As complied by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the last on-the-job fatality occurred on Dec. 7, 2022 in Bloomfield Twp., making Thursday's incident the first recorded worker fatality in 2023.
Established in 1966, Super Steel Treating Co. offers processing services for bar and coil materials and specializes in metallurgical testing and dimensional measurement, according to its website.
