Michigan State Police say they've identified owner of 600 softballs that were apparently misplaced by motorist

TAYLOR (WWJ) -- A mystery involving a misplaced load of sporting goods has been solved in Metro Detroit.

The Michigan State Police Second District Monday morning posted on social media about the discovery of “approximately 600 softballs” that were found abandoned, and were being kept safe by police until their owner could be identified.

MSP did not disclosed exactly where the neon softballs were found, but said they were being held at the Metro South Post, located at 12111 N Telegraph Road in Taylor.

That post does happen to be located in front of a softball field, it was noted.

Later in the afternoon, MSP issued an update stating: "We have located the 🥎 owners and they have been returned. Just a reminder to make sure anything you are carrying is secure. Today alone there has been mattresses, ladders, a wheelchair and softballs. found along the freeway."

Police did not released any information about the balls' owner, or how they they lost their balls.
