DETROIT (WWJ) – A man suspected of driving under the influence in Detroit over the weekend is in custody after Michigan State Police had to break his window to arrest him.
Troopers spotted the 37-year-old Detroit man driving recklessly on the Southfield Freeway near I-96 just after midnight Sunday.
After the man exited the freeway in a white Nissan SUV, troopers pulled him over near Archdale and Fenkell, on the city's west side. Troopers noticed the man was impaired.
MSP officials say troopers asked the man to get out of the car several times, but he refused.
Troopers eventually had to break the window in order to take the suspect into custody, officials said.
The suspect, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to the Detroit Detention Center, where he "became more belligerent and started spitting around his cell."
Authorities drew blood from the suspect to determine whether he was impaired. The suspect was held at the Detroit Detention Center.
Troopers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw, though officials didn't say whether the man was believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The case is pending prosecutor review.
