Michigan State Police troopers investigate a freeway shooting on Detroit’s east side

DETROIT (WWJ) – Michigan State Police troopers were out along eastbound I-94 with their K9 units Friday morning, searching for evidence in an early morning freeway shooting.

State Police officials said at around 5 a.m. on June 5, MSP was notified about the shooting that happened around 1:57 a.m. on eastbound I-94 near Harper Avenue in Detroit.


A victim arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. During the investigation, troopers learned the victim’s car had also been hit multiple times by gunfire.

The eastbound side of I-94 was closed for a few hours, between Chalmers and Harper Ave., for the on-scene investigation.

While investigators were processing the scene and collecting evidence, drivers were asked to avoid the area.

The freeway reopened to traffic at around 8 a.m.

Police did not immediatel release any information about a suspect or a motive in the case, saying that the investigation is ongoing.

MSP said, in a statement: “Gun violence continues to impact our communities and put innocent lives at risk. We urge anyone with information related to this incident to contact law enforcement. Working together, we can help make our roads and neighborhoods safer for everyone.”
