(WWJ) -- Beginning today, the Unemployment Insurance Agency in Michigan will offer in-person appointments for the first time since March of 2020.
Michiganders can go online and schedule appointments for unemployment insurance services at one of 12 local offices throughout the state.
Each slot is 15 minutes and can be scheduled up to a week in advance, and appointments are available Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
"This additional option for customer service is another avenue to assist Michigan residents in accessing the financial lifeline they need while they are recovering from a job loss," said Acting UIA Director Liza Estlund Olson.
Walk-in appointments will not be accepted, and appointments are not transferrable. Customers should bring their driver's license or photo ID, and any other documents need for their claim. Individuals who are late for their appointment may have to reschedule.
The agency estimates that it will serve about 900 customers per day in person, and expects that appointments will fill up quickly. However, slots will open each day when there are cancellations.
Some COVID-19 safety protocols will still be in place at UIA offices, such as requesting that customers wear a mask before entry.
