HOWELL, Mich. (WWJ) - Woody The Woodchuck predicted a long winter Saturday morning after the resident critter saw her shadow at the Howell Nature Center.

The annual event was rescheduled from Groundhog Day on Feb. 2 after Michigan was struck with its first massive snowstorm of the season.

Howell Nature Center livestreamed the rescheduled event -- who also invited guests to join in person -- at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 5. Woody went after her shadow in front of an audience of children and adults, effectively forecasting six more weeks of winter.

Representatives for the nature center said the major purpose of putting on activities such as this helps to promote Michigan's native wildlife and raise awareness for new projects.

Representatives said on Facebook that they are still accepting donations to support efforts to relocate Woody and her other woodchuck friends to a new home that is breaking ground later this year.
