(WWJ) -- He's done it. Miguel Cabrera is the 28th player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit 500 career home runs, after hitting the milestone dinger Sunday afternoon at the Rogers Centre against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cabrera's historic homer came on a 1-1 pitch off Steven Matz in the sixth inning, a drive into the bullpen in right-center field.

The homer, his 13th of the season tied the game at 1-1.

Play was paused briefly as his Tiger teammates came out of the dugout and he received a standing ovation from Tigers and Jays fans alike.

Cabrera continues to inch closer to joining another historic club -- the 3,000 Hit Club. His homer Sunday was his 2,955th career hit.

Cabrera would be the 33rd player to reach the 3,000-hit milestone.

Reaching that milestone would also put him in an even more exclusive club -- he'd become just the 7th player in MLB history with 3,000 hits and 500 home runs, joining Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro, Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols. As you'd imagine, they are all Hall-of-Famers.
