Man shot by Oakland County SWAT team after standoff in Milford

MILFORD (WWJ) -- A man has been shot by police following a barricaded situation Monday morning.

Milford Police say officers were called to the Urbane Milford apartment building on East Commerce around 1 a.m. after neighbors heard someone screaming to call 911.

Arriving officers were met with gunfire coming from the apartment. They set up a perimeter and called in the Oakland County Sheriff's special response team.

Just before 5 a.m., police say a man exited the apartment with a loaded long-gun and aimed it toward the officers. A member of the Oakland County SWAT team fired a shot and struck the man.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured.

An upstairs neighbor who was present at the time of the shooting tells WWJ's Charlie Langton that the man is in his 30s and lives alone.

“He acts like a gangster, kind of,” the neighbor said. “Talks like it, and keeps weird hours.“

Police say this appears to be an attempt at suicide by cop. The incident remains under investigation.
