
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities in Van Buren County have asked for the public's help after a miniature horse was found shot in the neck and killed on Thursday.
Sheriff Daniel Abbott said deputies are investigating the case out of Hamilton Township after they were called to the residence in the 8000 block of 55th Street about 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 5.
Deputies said the resident reported hearing two gunshots near their home around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, but did not discover the horse until the next morning.
The sheriff's office said they believed someone open fired their weapon from the road near the animal's pen. The horse was shot through the neck, but the bullet has not yet been recovered.
Deputies then said whoever shot the horse left the scene afterward.
