EASTPOINTE (WWJ) -- A man is in custody in connection with the case of a 13-month-old child found in an Eastpointe impound lot.

The Harper Woods Police Department say they were contacted by a detective with the Detroit Police Department for a missing 1-year-old. The detective told Harper Woods that they had reportedly impounded a car belonging to the child's father the day before.

The toddler was found crying in the back of the car at the tow yard.

Harper Woods Police said the car was towed because it was "due to being abandoned, improperly parked on the prohibited side of the street, and blocking a resident’s driveway."

A thorough inventory wasn't taken because the car was reportedly locked, officials said.

Child Protective Services has been contacted.

Police said the child was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to fully recover.

Monday morning, police said detectives were in the early stages of an investigation to determine potential criminal charges.
