DEXTER (WWJ) - A missing Washtenaw County teen who deputies believed was lured away from relatives by someone they met on social media on Wednesday has been found safe.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office said Dexter High School student Ea Kuhr, who uses the pronouns they/them, went missing on Wednesday, Feb. 1, after they "intentionally avoided" family members when they arrived to pick them up from school.
In an update Thursday afternoon, the sheriff's office said they are "thankful we can report Ea has been located and is safe."
"Details are limited at this time but we want to thank those who spread the word & provided tips," officials said in a tweet, noting the FBI was involved in finding Kuhr.
While authorities said Wednesday they believed Kuhr left of their own free will, they were worried they met with an unknown person they'd been communicating with via social media who'd been trying to isolate them from their family.
"Information obtained during the early stages of our investigation shows a pattern of social media/internet grooming and an organized attempt to lure Ea away from family," deputies said in a Wednesday post to social media.
Officials did not disclose Thursday whether investigators still believe she was groomed.
Kuhr was last seen walking away from the high school toward Shield Road. The teen was wearing light gray sweat pants, a gray backpack, white tennis shoes, and a dark hooded sweatshirt.
