A family in Livonia is trying to find their lost Australian Shepard, named Daisy, after it was shot by a delivery driver on Easter Sunday.
Adam Forma was picking up his family when he got a call from police who were at his home in a neighborhood near Eight Mile and Farmington.
"I get there and they say the delivery driver made a delivery to your house and the dog barged through the door," Forma told WWJ's Ryan Wrecker. "But I don't know how they could barge through my front door when both doors were shut."
Forma believes someone tried to open the door and was greeted by the dogs. He says there's no way the dogs could get out unless someone opened the front door.
"I had made an order from Walmart and most of the things were in there except for a package of peeps, he was literally delivering a $1.50 package of peeps," Forma said. The peeps were missing from an earlier delivery.
The delivery driver, who shot the dog, called police and told investigators two dogs came at him and he felt threatened, scared and acted in self defense.
While one of Forma's dogs is at home, Daisy, who the delivery driver said he shot, hasn't been found.
People living on the east side of Farmington Road near Eight Mile reported seeing Daisy, but she hasn't been located. Forma hired a drone operator to look for her and he has been searching the area, including nearby parks, on foot.
A Walmart representative said they hire independent contractors to deliver. The retailer has been cooperating with the police investigation. Walmart policy states that drivers are not allowed to unlawfully carry firearms.
Livonia police are continuing to investigate to see if any crimes were committed by the delivery driver or homeowner.
