(WWJ) A Pontiac woman and her two small children escaped unharmed overnight, after someone threw a bottle bomb into their apartment.

The 22-year-old victim called 911 at around 2 a.m. Thursday to report that a smoke detector woke her up. She smelled smoke, and discovered a fire in the kitchen. The woman grabbed her kids -- a 2-year-old boy and a 9-month-old girl -- and they quickly evacuated the apartment.

Oakland County deputies responded to the scene -- on 100 block of Fiddis Ave., south of M-59 -- to find a 12 oz. Miller High Life beer bottle on the kitchen floor with a cloth hanging out of it and a strong smell of gasoline.

The cloth was still burning, officials said, and deputies put the fire out before Waterford Regional Fire Department arrived.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

The victim told deputies she had no idea who might want to harm her and her children.

Officials say it appears the suspect was able to open a sliding glass door that was left unlocked. The investigation is ongoing.
