The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 17 counties across Southeast Michigan -- including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties, in effect until 8 p.m. on Monday (5/18).
"'Storms rolling through are capable of producing hail, as well as wind gusts in excess of 60 to 70 miles per hour. So, make sure you take cover as these storms roll through the region — could be quite dangerous," said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick.
"So, it's gonna cause quite a bit of damage out there; certainly some power outages, some downed tree limbs, power lines for sure," he added.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for a portion of Metro Detroit, including Warren ,Sterling Heights, and St. Clair Shores, was set to expire at 6:30 p.m.
Feerick said the worst of Monday's storms should hit the WWJ listening area before that time.
