FRENCHTOWN TWP. (WWJ) — A Monroe County man is facing charges of criminal sexual conduct after allegedly assaulting a woman he had asked to help him make a TikTok video.
Avery Elijah Williams of Frenchtown Township was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of fourth-degree CSC and one count of assault and battery, stemming from an incident Monday at a department store on Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Twp.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a deputy was called to the store Monday after receiving a 911 call from a woman who said she had been assaulted by an unknown man while she was shopping.
The victim told police she was approached by the suspect, later identified as Williams, who asked her to assist him with making a TikTok video. The victim agreed and then "noticed the suspect was attempting to draw attention to his clear state of arousal," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
The woman tried to leave the area, but the suspect assaulted her as she ran away, according to police. No other details about the assault were revealed.
The deputy gathered evidence regarding the alleged assault and coordinated an investigation with detectives, identifying the 24-year-old Williams as the suspect. He was later found and arrested while at work.
Bond was set at $2,500 cash/surety and Williams was ordered to wear a GPS tether upon release.
Authorities are asking the public to come forward if they are aware of any additional incidents at area retail stores that are similar to this incident. Anyone who has information on this case or other similar cases is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
