MONROE (WWJ) A Monroe man was killed in Frenchtown Township on Wednesday, when officials say he was hit by a trian.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened on Nov, 27 at 1:18 p.m., on the CSX Rail Line that crosses over Mall Road—at Telegraph and N. Monroe Street.

Preliminary investigation suggests Robert Moore, 36, was jogging westbound on Mall—crossing over the CSX Rail Line—past the active crossing gates while they were down and displaying red warning flashing lights. Moore approached the westside gate, turned around and started to jog eastbound. That's when a southbound train hit him, the sheriff's office said.

Moore came to rest between the northbound and southbound rail lines. The train's emergency brakes were activated, bringing it to a total stop.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The Frenchtown Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, Monroe County Road Commission, Monroe County Road Commission, CSX Railroad, Monroe County Sheriff's Office Chaplain Program and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Victim's Services all assisted at the scene.

Anyone with information should call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at (734) 240-7541.
