MONROE (WWJ) - Downriver police officers stumbled across two suspects and a cache of stolen firearms and ammunition after responding to shots fired, authorities said on Wednesday.
The City of Monroe Public Safety Department said in a post to social media the morning of March 29 that the discovery was made after Officers Smithers and Ferguson heard gunshots in the area of Godfroy and Noble.
While searching the area, they apprehended two suspects identified as an adult male and a juvenile male. The men were found with firearms that the officers determined had come from a recent breaking and entering case, police said.
"This led to the recovery of more stolen weapons and annunciation," authorities added.
A photo of the weapons posted to Twitter shows officers seized at least six firearms.
The department praised the officers for their "good work"
