(WWJ) — The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called to deal with two separate incidents on Easter Sunday in Northern Michigan.

In one incident, a trooper from the MSP Gaylord Post requested help from the bomb squad during a traffic stop along US-131 in Mancelona, northwest of Grayling.

The trooper spotted an “explosive device” on the car’s dashboard, according to a press release. The bomb squad showed up and disposed of the device, which was an M-150 firecracker.

That call came shortly after the MSP Bomb Squad had responded to a call in Antrim County near the Grand Traverse Bay.

The Antrim County Sheriff’s Office called the unit to help dispose of “military ordnance” that had washed up on the shore of Grand Traverse Bay near Kewadin.

MSP officials say the sheriff’s office requested their help disposing of the ordnance, which turned out to be a Mark-25 Marine Marker military flare, a device that helps a ship mark its location on the water.

In 2023 the MSP Bomb Squad responded to 120 calls in the MSP 7th District to assist and dispose of explosive devices.

“The MSP wants to remind everyone to call 911 if they see or find items, they believe may be explosive or hazardous. Never attempt to pick up or move a suspicious item. The MSP Bomb Squad is trained on how to safely remove, transport, and dispose of these items,” officials said in a press release.
