INKSTER (WWJ) - State police were not expecting to find a missing girl while conducting a routine traffic stop Friday night, but troopers with the Metro South post were able to reunite a child with her family after pulling over a vehicle in Inkster.

Michigan State Police said state police stopped a white Toyota late Friday, around 10:30 p.m., after the driver blew through a stop sign on Norfolk and Princess.

As troopers approached the vehicle, they saw an underage girl accompanied by two adult men. One male, a passenger in the backseat, had an opened beer bottle in his hands and was arrested by police.

While the man was handcuffed, troopers also found an orange pill bottle containing crack cocaine in the suspect's hands.

As the troopers began to identify the other occupants, they discovered the juvenile female was reported missing through the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police Department.

After speaking with the girl - whose age was not identified, only that she is under the age of 18 - troopers believed her to be a victim of sex trafficking.

The male passenger, who also was found to have violated his parole, is being held at the Inkster Police Department pending a prosecutor's review -- it is unclear what charges he will face.

The girl was taken by troopers to the MSP Flint post where she was reunited with her family.

MSP continues to investigate other possible crimes the two male suspects may have committed.
