DETROIT (WWJ) – The search continues for a man who authorities say kidnapped a Detroit toddler when he stole a car on the city’s west side late Saturday night.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday an Amber Alert was issued for the 3-year-old girl, who was in the back of a 2006 Chrysler 300. The alert was canceled Sunday morning around 7 a.m.
Michigan State Police officials say the girl was found in the Chrysler, but the suspect was not there. It was not immediately clear where the car and girl were found.
Authorities say the suspect, a man believed to be 45-50 years old, took the Chrysler from the area of Schoolcraft and Greenfield Roads around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. Officials have not said whether the man knew the girl was in the car when he took off.
Officials say the suspect has a gray mustache and gray beard. He is said to be 5-foot-5 to 6-feet-tall. He was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket, gray hoodie and gray sweatpants.
Police are still asking anyone who recognizes the man, knows of his whereabouts, or knows something else about the case to call the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-2260.
