DETROIT (WWJ) - A Michigan State Police helicopter found a child that left his home in Detroit Wednesday night.

In a Tweet from the MSP Second District, video from inside Trooper 6 shows part of a neighborhood in Detroit as the helicopter flies over. A figure that appears to be a child is spotted behind a tree. The video is dated March 20 around 11:30 p.m.

“We think we found the kid hiding behind the tree,” one of the troopers in the helicopter said on the video.

The 8-year-old boy, who authorities say left his home without permission, walked around the tree while the helicopter hovered overhead.

A police cruiser is seen driving down the road as the boy steps behind the tree once more.

“That PD car, you just passed him,” the trooper said in the video. “Stop right there, he’s coming around the tree. He sees you, he’s going around the tree. He’s trying to hide from you.”

The video ends with an officer leaving the vehicle and approaching the boy. The video appears to show the officer and boy speaking to each other.

Authorities said the helicopter was a big help locating the missing child.
