DETROIT (WWJ) – Two men have been arrested after a Michigan State Police helicopter tracked them to the MotorCity Casino in Detroit following a chase across Metro Detroit.
Metro South Troopers got word around 1 a.m. Sunday that Warren police officers and troopers from the Metro North Post were chasing a white Chrysler 300 wanted for stealing from a car and attempted car theft.
Warren police terminated the chase and MSP’s Trooper 2 chopper followed the car into the city of Romulus. That’s when a Metro South sergeant found the car in a subdivision and tried to pull the suspect over, only for them to flee again.
Trooper 2 then followed the car back north to Detroit, where the suspect driver entered the parking garage at the MotorCity Casino.
The suspect vehicle was found abandoned in the garage and troopers found the two suspects walking along the street outside of the parking garage, according to MSP officials.
One suspect ran and was detained a short distance away. Troopers used surveillance footage from the parking garage to confirm the two suspects in custody were the ones in the Chrysler.
The 32-year-old driver from Livonia and the 24-year-old passenger from Detroit were arrested and held at the Detroit Detention Center.
“This is just another example of the great work troopers are doing to keep Michiganders safe,” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “We will continue to use technology along with good old fashioned police work to help build a Michigan where everyone feels safe and secure.”
The case is pending prosecutor review.
