LIVONIA (WWJ) Michigan State Police (MSP) are investigating a possible freeway shooting in the Livonia area.

MSP said it happened on Tuesday, April 21, on EB I-96 between Middlebelt and Inkster around 4:40 p.m.

According to MSP, Detroit Regional Communication Center learned of a possible freeway shooting. Troopers arrived at the callers' location. At that time, she was parked on the shoulder of I-96 east of Outer Drive.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim turned right onto the eastbound I-96 service drive from northbound Farmington, in the right turn lane.

She told troopers the suspect's vehicle conducted an illegal right turn at the same time as the victim. The victim braked to avoid colliding with the suspect on the service drive. According to authorities, after the near collision, the victim merged onto eastbound I-96, making her way to the far-left lane. The suspect merged onto the eastbound side of the freeway. The suspect accelerated to match the victim's speed, and pulled up next to her in the left center lane.

The victim and her vehicle were not hit.

“Troopers are continuing to investigate this incident,” said First Lieutenant Mike Shaw. “While no one was hit by these rounds, it is ridiculous that we continue to see people try to settle a traffic dispute with a gun.”
