(WWJ) — Michigan State Police are investigating what they're calling a "suspicious death" in Macomb County.

It happened late Wednesday night at a home on Mackey Road in Richmond Township — near the border of Macomb and St. Clair Counties.

Troopers responded to a 911 call shortly before 11 p.m. on Dec. 4 in which a 17-year-old boy reported someone had shot themself and he was performing CPR.

When the trooper got to the scene, EMS personnel were already there and had pronounced the 18-year-old woman dead.

While interviewing the 17-year-old, investigators learned he was the victim's boyfriend and there "were inconsistencies in what had occurred before the shooting."

MSP officials did not release any other information about the death or what led them to believe it was "suspicious."

Authorities secured the home and the Second District Special Investigation Section was alerted.

As of Thursday morning, detectives were carrying out search warrants and gathering evidence from the scene and interviewing witnesses, MSP officials said.

The investigation remains ongoing, pending the medical examiner report.

Family members have been notified.
