(WWJ) Michigan State Police are warning drivers to look out for large birds in the roadway after a crash on Thursday along I-96.

At around 12:45 p.m. on April 24, MSP said a 19-year-old Sterling Heights man was driving eastbound on I-96 near Fowlerville Rd. in Livingston County, when a turkey flew into the path of his 2022 Ford F-250 pickup truck.

The turkey hit the windshield, "ending up inside the vehicle," according to the MSP First District.

Police said the driver was able to maintain control of his vehicle and avoided turning this into a major crash.

The driver was uninjured, but the turkey didn't make it.

MSP said this case serves as a reminder to always be aware while driving, urging: "Be on the lookout for turkeys that may fly into the path of your vehicle as they attempt to elude hunters," MSP said.

Michigan's spring turkey hunting season, which began April 20, runs through June 7 this year.
