(WWJ) The Michigan State Police says a lucky pooch is looking for a forever home after a rescue on the freeway in the Detroit area this week.

On Wednesday, officials said the Detroit Regional Communication Center received a call about a dog running along I-96, and MSP jumped into action to help.

MSP said Tpr. Justin Boczkaja headed down to the freeway to see if he could find the dog. "Sure enough the dog was located and asked for a ride," according to the MSP Second District, which shared a photo of the dog and Boczkaja on social media.

"The dog, who asked to not be identified, was taken to the Humane Society where they are waiting for a new family," MSP added, in a post to X.

MSP did not say exactly where on along I-96 the dog was found.

If you see a dog or another animal loose on the freeway, MSP urges the public not to get out of their cars to try to catch them. Instead, give police a call.
