VENICE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) – Speed and alcohol may have played a role in a Flint-area crash Saturday night that left a Metro Detroit woman dead and three other people injured, while a baby in a carseat was unharmed.

Michigan State Police say the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of M-21 and Vernon Road in Venice Township, about 15 miles west of Flint.

Authorities say a 28-year-old woman from Orion was killed, and a 20-year-old Orion man sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash when a 2013 Dodge Durango failed to stop at the intersection and struck the Saturn Vue they were driving in.

They were both ejected from the vehicle, but an infant passenger inside the Saturn was properly restrained in a child safety seat and was uninjured, according to MSP.

The 25-year-old driver of the Durango, a man from Dearborn, and his passenger, a 32-year-old Taylor man, both suffered serious injuries in the crash.

MSP are still investigating, but say it appears speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.

MSP Flint Post troopers responded to the scene, assisted by Venice Township Fire, Corunna Police Department, Corunna Area Ambulance Service, Owosso Fire Department Ambulance Service, and Shiawassee County 911.

Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved in the crash.
