HAZEL PARK (WWJ) — A woman is expected to face charges after allegedly stabbing another driver after a crash on a Metro Detroit freeway ramp late Monday afternoon.

Michigan State Police officials say a 911 call came in from the area of I-75 and I-696 around 5:40 p.m. Monday, April 22, but no one was responding to the dispatcher when they picked up.

As troopers were on their way to the scene, dispatchers were able to use MDOT freeway cameras to locate two vehicles that appeared to have been in a crash.

Officials said one driver was “continuing to back into another vehicle.”

When troopers showed up to the northbound I-75 ramp to eastbound I-696, they learned a crash had in fact happened. The incident caused major backups on the freeway ramp at the time.

In the aftermath of the crash, a 37-year-old Harper Woods woman allegedly stabbed the other driver in the back with a pair of scissors.

The victim was treated at the scene by EMS, but refused to be taken to the hospital, MSP officials said. Authorities did not release any information about the victim.

It was not clear what caused the crash or if either driver was injured as a result. Officials did not say whether anyone else was in either car at the time.

The suspect, who was determined to be impaired, was arrested and taken to the MSP post for processing. Officials did not say whether she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.

The woman made threats to hurt herself and was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation, MSP officials said.

The case remains under investigation. The suspect’s name has not been released and exact charges have not been disclosed, pending prosecutor review.
