East Lansing (WWJ) -- The future of two Michigan State University Trustees will be decided by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The Michigan State University Board of Trustees held a meeting Sunday night, voting 6-to-2 to request that Gov. Whitmer consider removing Rema Vassar and Dennis Denno.

Vassar resigned as the board's chair Sunday following a report by a Washington DC based law firm that claimed the two had violated the board's ethics policies and bylaws.

"Many of the exchanges referenced in the report I was present for, and I can tell you that this report is incomplete," said Rema Vassar, speaking in her defense before the vote. "It omits some very important information and key voices that could have provided a fuller and different picture."

Vice Chair Dan Kelly becomes the board's new leader.

The meeting happened just hours before Kevin Guskiewicz became MSU's new president.
