
EAST LANSING (WWJ) - Michigan State women's head basketball coach will miss the Spartan's upcoming game against Illinois after officials say she was involved in a car crash Saturday morning.
In a statement from MSU's Athletics department, Coach Suzy Merchant was in a minor, single-vehicle car crash due to an undisclosed medical incident.
"She is currently at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing undergoing testing and is in stable condition," the department stated.
In her absence, associate head coach Dean Lockwood will step in as interim head coach. The team is expected to travel to Illinois as planned.
MSU will face the Fighting Illini on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
