FERNDALE (WWJ) A Mt. Clemens man is behind bars— accused of attacking two women and stealing their car before leading officers on a chase.
Ferndale Police said they responded to New Way Bar—on Woodward near 9 Mile—just after midnight on December 26th, for two women who reported a man attacked them in the parking lot, then drove away in their vehicle.
Police said it happened just as the women were trying to leave the parking lot. The suspect— identified as Bryan Marks, 40—blocked their exit by standing behind the car and accused them of nearly hitting another car. Marks then approached the driver’s side window, punched the driver and assaulted the passenger who tried to help. He knocked the passenger unconscious. As the driver tried to help the passenger, Marks got into their car and drove away, police said.
Ferndale officers started searching for the stolen car.
A car matching its description was seen traveling north on Woodward. When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect fled, according to police.
The pursuit ended about three miles later. The suspect crashed into the bushes at the Amoco Gas Station on Woodward near 12 Mile, in Royal Oak, while he attempted to turn left on to Greenleaf. Police said he got out of the vehicle and tried to run away, but Ferndale officers arrested him “quickly” and “without further incident.”
He was charged with 2 counts of carjacking and one count of Fleeing a Police Officer, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of Operating With No License. He was arraigned and given a $500,000 bond. He’s due back in court on January 2nd.
