SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - It was a humid, sticky start to Thursday in Metro Detroit and all that mugginess is setting the region up for scattered to numerous showers this afternoon with the possibility of severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service, a slow moving cold front will trigger scattered to numerous thunderstorms throughout the day with a few strong storms possible in the afternoon hours.

Hazards associated with the strongest storms include wind gusts of up to 45 mph, hail less than one inch in diameter and localized flooding.

On Wednesday evening, storms tracked across communities to the north such as Midland, Saginaw and Bay City, hampering travel efforts for drivers making their way back to the Metro are from up north.

The same system is now taking aim at Southeast Michigan.

According to forecasters, storm and rain chances will lessen considerably once the cooler air moved into the region later this evening. Thursday's high is expected to only climb to the low 80s, a ten degree difference from Wednesday where temperatures flitted into the 90s.

Thursday night lows will only be in the 60s, but are forecasted to bounce back on Friday to about 80 degrees with sunnier and drier conditions. Much of the humidity will move out, Thompson said, so it will be a comfortable start to the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on the forecast for Thursday in the event stronger storms develop. You can stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates with Traffic and Weather on the :08s.
