NEWPORT, MICH. (WWJ) WWJ is following a developing situation at Swan Boat Club in Monroe County.
According to CBS Detroit, an employee confirmed that "multiple people were injured when a vehicle crashed" into the boat club Saturday afternoon on Brancheau Street in Newport. They also report that Michigan State Police Lieutenant Rene Gonzalez confirmed the driver was "intoxicated."
The Swan Boat Club released a statement on Facebook just after 4 p.m.: "In light of the emergency please do not try to come to Swan Boat Club at the moment so emergency vehicles can get through. At this time the club is closed until further notice.
Please keep everyone involved in your thoughts and prayers. We thank everyone for their concern and prayers."
Photos on Facebook show a large hole in the side of the building, multiple emergency vehicles and helicopters at the scene.
No word on how many were injured, their ages, or whether or not anyone died.
WWJ has reached out to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Monroe Police and the Boat Club. The Sheriff's Office said they're working on a press release.
