DETROIT (WWJ) – The Detroit Police Department is asking for tips after a man was caught on surveillance camera at a gas station getting into a truck moments before the driver was shot and killed.

Detroit police officials say a man in his 40s was killed in the shooting around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at a Shell gas station on Greenfield Road, just south of 8 Mile on the city's northwest side.

Video released by police shows the suspect getting out of a newer model black Nissan Maxima or Altima with tinted windows and no license plate. The suspect, wearing all black and carrying a blue backpack is seen getting into the front seat of a black pickup truck.

Shortly after he got in the truck, the suspect fired several shots, got out and fled in the Nissan, headed south on Greenfield towards the Lodge Freeway.

Authorities have not released the victim's name, or a possible motive in the shooting.

The suspect is believed to be about 5-foot-5, and approximately 25 years old.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows something about the shooting is asked to call the Detroit Police Department's Homicide investigators at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
