ROYAL OAK (WWJ) -- A busy intersection in Royal Oak is now home to the Metro Detroit area's newest Chick-fil-A.

The fast food restaurant opened at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at 13 Mile Rd. and Woodward Ave., in the Woodward Corners by Beaumont retail center. The space was previously home to Wahlburgers, which closed back in 2022.

WWJ's Charlie Langton people were lining up early, ahead of the doors opening — a few of them them in costume — as the company said anyone wearing cow attire or cow-spotted accessory could get one free meal.

Something to note: There will be no drive-thru service at this location.

As of March 2026, there are approximately 20 Chick-fil-A locations now open in the Metro Detroit area.

The chain — known for their crispy chicken, waffle fries, and being closed on Sundays — has been rapidly in Michigan, with plans to open 25 to 30 new restaurants across the state by 2028.
