LIVONIA (WWJ) -- Livonia Police are sharing new details about quadruple murder scene, where a suspect gave himself up peacefully, early Tuesday evening.

When officers arrived at the home along Rensselaer Road, near Inkster and 7 Mile roads, around 5:30 p.m. they found the suspect exiting the home with his hands above his head, and his fingers interlocked, according to Livonia Police Chief Tom Goralski.

Goralski said officers asked the man if he knew where the gunfire was coming from, and he said he'd just shot his family.

The 25-year-old man was then arrested without incident.

Two of the victims were found inside the house, and two more were found in the backyard.

They are identified as 58-year-old Sterling Pierce and his 53-year-old wife, Holly Kimball, the parents of the alleged shooter; the shooter's 22-year-old brother, Tanner Pierce, and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Neveah May Finch of Warren.

All four were dead at the scene.

Calling the shootings a "horrific crime," the chief said his department's thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

Asked about a motive, Goralski told reporters: "At this point, all I can tell you is this that there was a contentious relationship between the suspect and his parents, and that's all we can tell you. We don't know what happened yesterday. But that's what we can tell you today."

Goralski said police did not have any previous encounters with the suspect.

The gun believed to have been used in the shootings, a semiautomatic rifle, has been recovered.

The investigation is ongoing.

Once complete, Livonia detectives will send their report to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office which will determine charges. The shooter's name has not been officially released, pending an arraignment.
