DETROIT (WWJ) -- Just hours after graduating from the academy, a Detroit Police Officer has been suspended.
That's after video surfaced of the probationary officer punching a man in the head early Saturday morning in Greektown while his badge was attached to his belt.
Uniformed officers eventually stepped in to break up the beating.
According to the police department, the officer was under the influence of alcohol when he got into the confrontation. He was arrested and taken to jail following the fight.
The Detroit officer, who has not been identified, had just graduated from the police academy on Friday. He has reportedly been relieved of his probationary duties and suspended, but not terminated from the department.
"I'm extremely disappointed in the behavior and actions of this probationary officer. His conduct does not represent the hardworking men and women of this department," Chief James White said.
The incident comes just a few of weeks after another Detroit police officer was suspended after he was captured on video punching a man in Greektown.
