MONROE COUNTY (WWJ) - Law enforcement announced that several large explosions reported in northern Monroe County on Friday afternoon are from blasting at a quarry.

"What was that big boom?" several tipsters said as WWJ took phone calls about the sounds that could be heard across the county.

Monroe County dispatch said they, too, have taken several calls about the blasts.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office told WWJ that there was no emergency, while the South Rockford Police Department told WWJ that they have confirmed the explosions are part of scheduled blasting taking place at the quarry.

While explosions are part of "normal operations" at the quarry and happen on a routine basis, authorities investigated further due to the volume of calls they received about the noise.
