PETOSKEY, Mich. (WWJ) -- A northern Michigan man is behind bars after allegedly attacking another man with a machete over the weekend.
Michigan State Police say it all unfolded late Saturday night when troopers were dispatched to a fight near the intersection of US-31 and Rice Street in Petoskey.

When troopers showed up, they found a 34-year-old Petoskey man walking in the middle of US-31 with a severe laceration to his leg.
The man said he’d been attacked by someone he knew, a 56-year-old Petoskey man who had been staying at a local motel.
Police say an argument between the men escalated and the older man allegedly attacked him with a machete. Authorities did not disclose whether the alleged attack happened in the intersection or at another location.
The victim was taken to McLaren Northern Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
Police interviewed the suspect and multiple witnesses.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and lodged in the Emmet County Jail, pending arraignment.
