MISSAUKEE COUNTY, Mich. (WWJ) – A woman is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Northern Michigan Thursday afternoon.
Michigan State Police officials say they're handling the investigation after a 41-year-old woman from Lake City was shot in Norwich Township, about 35 miles northeast of Cadillac.
It happened around 1:45 p.m. when members of the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force Emergency Response Team (ERT) were executing a search warrant for her arrest.
During the arrest, the woman, who was armed, confronted police and she was shot and killed, according to MSP. It was not immediately clear if the woman fired any shots at police.
The MSP Forensic Science Laboratory from Grayling and the MSP Seventh District Investigative Response Team, out of Gaylord, responded to the scene. They are conducting the investigation.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation, per department protocol.
Authorities did not disclose any details about the warrant for the woman's arrest. Her name has not been released.
