OAK PARK (WWJ) -- It's beginning to really stink in Oak Park.

The City of Oak Park is in the midst of changing its trash routines following resident complaints about multiple late pick-ups.

Thursday, June 16, is one of the two trash days in the city, but garbage has still not been picked up, says WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton.

Langton said the city is currently working with its trash hauler to renovate a trash pick-up plan.

The city says they're going to soon divide Oak Park up into five trash pick-up districts, with each one having its own trash day.

But the stinky garbage remains after their old hauler gave up the contract on Monday, reports WDIV.

And their current hauler is running a day behind schedule, so cans are planned to be picked up on Friday.

The City of Oak Park says it will roll out the new trash plan on Monday with residents receiving communication about the new schedule.

However, the new plan isn't expected to go into effect until Aug. 1, officials say.
