SOUTH LYON (WWJ) -- Oakland County Sheriff's deputies are on patrol at a local middle middle school after an online threat was made over the weekend.
Parents were told to expect a law enforcement presence at Millennium Middle School, in South Lyon, while dropping off their students Monday morning.
South Lyon Community School officials said there would be "extra OCSO officers" at the school "in an overabundance of caution" after a report of threatening comments made on social media Saturday night.
This comes after the first week of school, and it wasn't even a full week. Students in the district had last Monday off for Labor Day.
Officials said the threat involved some students who attend the school, along 9 Mile Rd. near Pontiac Trail, allegedly posted: "I bring gun to school?", "...meet in the 8th grade bathroom 2nd period" and another posted "I got the ammo."
"Students who observed the comments reported them to the MMS administration. As is our safety protocol, our Director of Safety and Security and local law enforcement were contracted immediately," the district said, in a message sent to parents and the school community.
The sheriff's office met with the students and families involved, and an investigation is underway.
At least two of students identified as the perpetrators will not be allowed on school grounds as police investigate, the district said.
The message to families continued: "As with any threat in our schools, we take them seriously, and in today's climate, simply stating, 'I'm just kidding, I didn't mean it,' or 'it was a joke,' does NOT impact the seriousness of the situation."
There were no reports of any weapons found, and no one has been hurt.
