OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) -- About two weeks before the mask mandate is officially lifted for schools and daycares, Oakland County is giving away almost a million KN95 masks.

The giveaway of some 800,000 masks started Feb. 10 and wraps up Tuesday with a drive-thru event in Southfield.

No appointment is necessary, but recipients need to be county residents.

The giveaway takes place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Catalpa Park on Greenfield Road between 11 and 12 Mile roads.

"Masks and vaccinations are still the best ways to prevent the transmission of COVID," Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter said. "These masks will provide an additional safeguard for residents as we work together to end this pandemic and get back to normal."
